Position Description

Educational Leadership

  • Leadership in Vision: Develops, refines and propagates the vision of the Academy to and with the Board, to the administration, faculty, parents and students of the Academy by constantly reading, reviewing and pondering pertinent historical and current visions and models of academic, community and cultural excellence resulting in an Academy full of truth, beauty and goodness.
  • Leadership in Strategy: Oversees the implementation of the long term strategic planning of the Academy by advising the Board in these matters, reminding the Board of the Academy’s goals and commitments resulting in the incarnation of the vision of the Academy.
  • Curriculum Oversight: Oversees curriculum choices and development by working with the Board and the faculty of the Academy to foresee needed curriculum, improve or replace deficient curriculum resulting in the use of the best curriculum available to Yellowstone Classical Christian Academy.
  • Milestone Assessment: Collaborates with the Board and faculty to develop and implement assessment of student milestones which inform data-driven curriculum decisions for a continuously improving education model.
  • Educational Innovation: Discovers best practices in the broader academic community and implements them at Yellowstone Classical Christian Academy by interacting with other educational leaders and communities resulting in constantly improving practices at the Academy.

Administrative Management

  • Operations Oversight: Directs the daily operation of Yellowstone Classical Christian Academy by supervising the staff, by coordination of activities via creation of clear lines of authority and by setting the tone for a quality Christian educational program resulting in an Academy that runs smoothly.
  • Budget Oversight: Oversees the creation of the yearly budget by working with the Finance Committee and the Treasurer to draft and revise the budget in January resulting in an Academy that operates within its means.
  • Financial Reporting: Oversees financial accounting through the reports of the Treasurer resulting in proper, timely and accurate financial accounting is made to the Board.
    Schedule Creation: Develops the schedule for each year including but not limited to class, chapel, and staff in-service days.
  • Academy Compliance: Applies knowledge of laws, regulations, and guidelines to oversee Academy compliance as they relate to students and staff per local, state, and federal regulations, including but not limited to accreditation, curriculum, 5-year state reviews, health and safety, and recordkeeping.
  • Policy Development: Creates, revises and monitors the standards and policies of Yellowstone Classical Christian Academy by consistently interacting with the staff, faculty, parents and students of the Academy resulting in the implementation and alteration of policies and practices of the Academy.

Community Engagement 

  • Community Building: Cultivates a supportive and interactive network by actively engaging with like-minded institutions, with a particular focus on Carbon, Stillwater and Yellowstone County churches.
  • Family Involvement: Cultivates strong relationships with students, parents, and faculty to encourage a collaborative Academy-home partnership.
  • Academy Presence: Collaborates with the Marketing Committee, overseeing social media presence, website development, marketing materials, and general Academy promotion within the local community.

Spiritual Leadership 

  • Values-Driven Culture: Monitors cultural trends in the Academy—correcting negative trends and inspiring positive cultural growth—by consistently being involved in the life of the Academy as an observer and role model resulting in a godly culture at Yellowstone Classical Christian Academy.
  • Faith Integration: Promotes the integration of Christian values into all aspects of Academy life, particularly via programs that contribute to the character development of students, emphasizing virtues and ethical behavior.
  • Chapel Services: Leads and organizes regular chapel services, fostering a community that values worship, prayer, and spiritual growth.

Student Development

  • Support Services: Implements and oversees student support with faculty, ensuring a holistic approach to addressing academic, social, spiritual, and emotional needs.
  • Redirection: Oversees student discipline through collaborative efforts with faculty and by building meaningful relationships with students to support living godly lives. The Headmaster maintains a record of notations to observe and address patterns if needed.
  • Recruitment: Oversees student recruitment through the ad hoc Marketing Committee and by meeting with, providing Academy tours to, and attracting like-minded families to register their children at Yellowstone Classical Christian Academy.
  • Extracurricular Activities: Encourages a diverse range of extracurricular activities that contribute to the overall development of students.

Professional Development 

  • Faculty Attainment: Recruits teachers by developing a plan to attract great teachers and by executing that plan resulting in the excellent faculty being in place for Yellowstone Classical Christian Academy.
  • Professional Development: Oversees the assignment, evaluation, training, encouragement, discipline and inspiration of the teaching staff by leading and developing the academic community resulting in an excellent faculty which is consistently growing and improving over time.
  • Faculty Performance: Annually conducts Performance Evaluations for each staff and faculty member. When necessary, tasked with terminating and hiring staff/faculty in conjunction and cooperation with the Board.
  • Record Keeping: Maintains consistent and meaningful personnel records through meticulous oversight of procedures and practices.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Attend a yearly Open House, fundraising events, and other Academy-related events.
  • Maintains conduct befitting a godly life, particularly in public conduct (including Social Media), recognizing that even when not formally carrying out Headmaster duties, the Headmaster’s conduct, speech, and demeanor will reflect on the Academy, shaping its perception among parents, prospective families, and the wider community.
  • Serves as an ex-officio member of the Board.
  • Other duties deemed appropriate by the Board.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: 

  • The Head of School is typically on call for Academy emergencies; accordingly, the Head of School will be involved in the most important and stressful circumstances at the Academy. This role requires excellent communication skills with people facing hardship, as well as the ability to work effectively without constant supervision.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • The Head of School directly supervises all employees of Yellowstone Classical Christian Academy.
