Common Arts Instructor (Part-time)
Website Smith Preparatory Academy
Cultivating Christian Virtue, Recovering Christian Humanism
Position Description
Join Our Team as a Common Arts Instructor!
At Smith Preparatory Academy, we strive to train the head, heart, and hands of our students. We believe the common arts should be closely integrated with a student’s growth in wisdom. Our goal is for students to be fully charitable to the world, equipped with the skills to meet basic human needs through creating artifacts or providing services. The common arts are a critical aspect of the embodied experience of a classical education.
Smith Preparatory Academy is looking for people skilled in crafts and manual arts to lead students in our Common Arts Program, which takes place on most Friday mornings of the school year. We are seeking dedicated instructors in any field of common arts: agriculture, architecture, trade, weaving and tailoring, cooking, woodworking, animal husbandry, and more. As a community, we need to eat, drink, build shelters, defend ourselves, bargain, maintain health, and repair broken artifacts. Our goal is to recover this practical wisdom and train our students to be active participants in the cultural mandate.
If you are passionate about teaching and preserving these essential skills, we would love to hear from you! Apply today and be a part of our mission to educate and empower the next generation.
