Position Description
The Director of Development will have the opportunity to build on the school’s already strong development history. That history includes generosity among our constituents as well as a supportive and encouraging culture.
Responsibilities for this position include the planning, oversight, and execution of all aspects of fundraising, event planning, and alumni and donor engagement. The Director of Development will work directly with the Board Development Committee, which supports all functions of the position, and he or she will sit on the administrative team.
Salary commensurate with experience.

- Cultivates and stewards relationships with donors, prospects, and alumni to enhance engagement and secure philanthropic support
Maintains a strict level of confidentiality on all matters related to the position and school. - Development
1. Plans and coordinates all fundraising activities to reach identified goals. Methods would include, but not be limited to: - segmentation of constituents to direct resources as appropriate
- Annual Bridge Fund appeals, year-end appeals, targeted appeals by constituent groups (e.g., grandparents) or by project (e.g., science equipment)
- setting and implementing strategy to maximize effectiveness of friendraising and fundraising goals and activities, prioritizing personal meetings as aligned with overall strategy
- appropriate direct participation in distinct fundraising activities: Project Faith, Annual Auction, Special designated project fundraising (e.g, Bus, Security, Academic programs, Athletics, etc.), Endowment, Employee appeal
- Capital Campaigns, as needed
- Renewanation program (Tax Credit Program)
- presentations during designated times (e.g., New Parent Meeting, Back to School, State of the School, etc.)
- maintaining and continually updating constituent database to ensure accurate information
2. Oversees Alumni Relations Coordinator and Alumni Board fundraising
3. Maintains contact with and develops grant proposals for foundations
4. Develops and maintains corporate relationships
5. Collaborates with the Head of School on major gifts
6. Pursues opportunities for personal and professional development
7. Prepares board reports related to position
Operations
- Coordinates/approves all internal fundraising activities to ensure coordination and consistency (often related to fundraising by student organizations and/or parents)
- Manages all budgets related to the position in coordination with the Director of Finance
- Manages direct reports (Events Coordinator, Alumni Relations Coordinator, assistant)
- Recruits volunteers as benefits other goals
Special Projects
- Supports Roanoke Valley Leadership Series as appropriate
Grandparents - Seeks opportunities for visibility in the community
- Develops a robust, sustainable planned giving program
Special considerations
- Should be comfortable lifting up to 30 pounds
