Doxa Christian Academy (WI)

We are in our fifth year, offering K-9 (hoping to build the school out all the way through 12th grade, Lord willing). We are a collaborative school. Our logic and rhetoric students engage at a high level in the integrated humanities (using Veritas Press's Omnibus series). Koine Greek instruction is started in 3rd grade. Our students experience the joy of language, grammar, literature and poetry as a reflection of the Word.

We are endeavoring to raise up young children in the fear and admonition of the Lord, equipping them to press Christ's claims into all corners of the earth, wherever and whatever the Lord may call them to do. Christ came to destroy the works of the devil. The church, and Christians are to participate in that work of destroying the work of the devil, as far as the curse is found. As we are a collaborative model, families need to be committed to having one parent do the teaching on our home days (Wednesday and Friday). We use narrative report cards for grammar school students. We are now partnered with Christian Halls and are building out a practical arts program. Our God is a singing God and we as Christians are to be a musical people. There is plenty of biblical warrant for this. In light of this, we seek to train our students to be literate musicians. In the visual arts. we desire to train our students in observational and perception skills through drawing. These skills will readily transfer to other art mediums. We tend to seek out teachers from our own local context, churches and existing networks of friends, family and acquaintances (as opposed to doing nation-wide searches).

Although we are not a church-based school, we have a very amicable relationship with the church that hosts us. On the church's 18 acres of property, students regularly explore the swamp, the pond, plenty of forest and a meadow. These students get a generous helping of recess and outdoor exploratory time, often discovering edible mushrooms, wounded wood ducks, crawling crayfish and more. We allow our boys to be boys and our girls to be girls. The kids will "stick fight" and tussle at recess, and that's okay. Our young people will not learn how to take risks or to manage risk if they are bubble wrapped by adults.

We are a collaborative Christian, classical school, one of only a few in the Milwaukee metro area. The school is located in New Berlin, which is a conservative western second-ring suburb of Milwaukee, adjacent to West Allis. Most of our families are confessionally reformed, either 1689 LBCF, Presbyterian or Dutch Reformed.
