JOB SUMMARY:
A lower primary teacher will use classical methods to effectively train students in spelling, grammar, reading, handwriting, math, science, history, geography, literature, and, preferably, Latin. The teacher will intentionally remove barriers between areas of study and make connections among subjects, demonstrating that all truth ultimately belongs to God. This role involves using an established curriculum to create solid lesson plans using age-appropriate knowledge of student abilities. Good teachers will use differentiated instructional methods to capture students’ attention and foster cooperation. Strong classroom management and discipline, rooted in love and aligned with approved methods, are essential. The teacher will support students and their families through consistent, thoughtful communication, feedback, encouragement, and prayer. Asbury Classical seeks teachers who demonstrate a love for learning and a dedication to teaching through classical methods.
Salary range: $44,000-50,000 depending on experience.

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
- Create an annual mapping for all subjects of instruction
- Submit weekly lesson plans
- Consistently assess students for progress through approved means
- Study all material deeply to become a “living curriculum”
- Facilitate deep study of various subjects in the classroom
- Animate material to engage students employing a classical method, including song, rhyme and memorization techniques
- Coach students in a tailored approach to education, helping them invest the talent God has given
- Enter grades within 48 hours for timely feedback
- Attend all designated faculty trainings
- Attend all designated faculty meetings
- Observe struggling students and make recommendations to the head of school for suggested learning goals
- Foster a well-ordered atmosphere through classroom discipleship
- Maintain a well-organized classroom that is oriented towards classical learning
- Ensure students are active learners both mentally and physically
REQUIREMENTS FOR THE POSITION:
- Must be a baptized Christian who is an active member of Asbury Church or other local church, partaking of the Lord’s Supper, living “in Christ” (Rom. 8), and above reproach in character, testimony, and Christian witness.
- Bachelor’s degree required
- Classical liberal arts education is preferred*
- Agreement with the school’s statement of faith and commitment to the integration of faith in all aspects of teaching

- Able to patiently mentor through discipleship
*Applicants that do not have a robust liberal arts education must be willing to learn and engage in rigorous training to prepare for the first academic year.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
The employee will work in a professional ministry-related office environment as well as classroom environment with ministry staff, volunteers, and children. The noise level in the work environment varies from moderate to loud. Employee may come into contact with childhood diseases and blood on occasion.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, and climbing all day. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision and depth perception and ability to adjust focus. Must be able to clearly hear. The employee must lift and or carry items over 25 lbs.
