Position Description
Heritage Preparatory School is a Pre-K through 12th grade classical, Christian school located in midtown Atlanta, GA. We exist to provide an academically rigorous educational experience designed to help students know, love, and practice that which is true, good, and excellent and to prepare them to live purposefully and intelligently in the service of God and man.
POSITION SUMMARY
The Dean of Students has the administrative role and responsibility to shape and foster a school culture that promotes the achievement of Heritage’s Portrait of a Graduate. The Dean plays a formative role in developing programs and events that create a dynamic and thriving school culture through which students cultivate their God-given gifts and talents. Working closely with the school’s leadership team, the Dean helps create a grace-filled disciplinary program with a goal of true repentance and restoration. The Dean is also responsible for overseeing the distinctive and intentional experiences of the Heritage Prep High School designed to help fulfill its purpose, mission, and vision. To further this end, the Dean’s role will require three main spheres of care that will by necessity expand and overlap:
Care of Faculty/Staff:
The Dean of Students will care for faculty by fostering a sense of collegiality within his coworkers, encouraging them in their mission as teachers and supporting them in discipline measures. He will lead Morning Devotions twice a week for the faculty.
Care of Students:
The Dean of Students will care for students with a particular attention to their spiritual maturation. He will act as a mediator in disputes between students, communicate with parents about any disciplinary issues and partner with them in order to carry out necessary consequences all while pointing them to the grace and true forgiveness of the cross. He will make an intentional effort to connect with students to continue care for the whole student.
Care of Culture:
The Dean of Students will care for the overall culture of the Upper School through the development of particular programs. He will oversee Liturgy and arrange for student leaders to lead liturgy in the mornings, and he will arrange speakers and run of US Chapel. He will oversee the HS mentorship programs and ensure the care of Founders through partnership with student leaders. He will oversee and care for the House system by sorting students appropriately into Houses, choosing the House and student leadership in partnership with the Headmaster and Head of Upper School, and fostering a sense of healthy competition through various tournaments and events. He will plan City as a Classroom for Freshmen and Sophomores, aiming to enrich their education through service, historical, or culturally significant excursions and experiences. He will also oversee other service opportunities for MS and HS students throughout the year, encouraging the students to be the hands and feet of Christ within Atlanta and beyond. Finally, the Dean of Students in partnership with the Head of Upper School will plan the yearly class trips as follows: HS Reconnect; Freshman year- Washington, D.C.; Sophomore year- Mission Trip; Senior year- Europe.

JOB DESCRIPTION

Education: Master’s degree is preferred
Experience: Leadership/discipleship experience preferred
Salary: Commensurate with education and experience
