Position Description
The Covenant School is Jesus centered, family focused, relationally united, and classically
minded. As a University-Model® school, our Grammar students (K-5th grade) meet on campus
on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and our Dialectic and Rhetoric students (6th-12th grade) meet on
campus on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays. The mission of our school is to partner with
parents in the education and spiritual formation of their children by providing a classical
education taught from a Biblical worldview.
Upper School Principal (6th-12th)
The Upper School Principal is responsible for promoting and implementing the mission and
policies of The Covenant School’s University Model School. This includes providing spiritual,
academic, and operational leadership; supervising and mentoring faculty and staff; shepherding
curriculum and professional development; and ensuring a Jesus-centered, classical learning
environment.
Qualifications
Required:
● Mature, committed walk with a growing relationship with Jesus Christ; agreement with
the school’s Mission Statement and philosophy.
● Bachelor’s degree (Master’s preferred) in a content-rich discipline or Educational
Leadership.
● Demonstrated leadership ability and experience in administration and management of
organizations/people.
● Thorough understanding of (or willingness to be trained in) classical Christ-centered
education.
● Professional and personal references demonstrating Godly character and spiritual
maturity.
● Agreement to attend a classical education conference within two years of hire and at
least every third year thereafter.
● If applicable, administrator’s children should attend The Covenant School unless
extenuating circumstances are approved by the Head of School.
Preferred:
● Master’s degree or higher.
● Three or more years in a leadership role.
● Classical, Christ-centered teaching experience.
● Familiarity with the history and mission of The Covenant School
Responsibilities & Expectations
1. Relationship with the Head of School
● Communicate regularly regarding academic, curricular, behavioral, and personnel
matters.
● Participate in scheduled leadership/administrative meetings.
● Complete reports and supply data as requested.
● Serve on school committees as required.
● Promote the school’s mission and vision within the community.
2. Relationship with Personnel
● Exemplify servant leadership, using biblical principles to resolve disputes and encourage
staff.
● Develop a culture of academic partnership with parents, with a particular emphasis on
respecting the unique role of home day teachers
● Lead effective divisional meetings for faculty and staff.
● Recruit, interview, and conduct reference checks for staff.
● Train, orient, and supervise faculty and staff to ensure the full implementation of school
programs.
● Evaluate staff performance through classroom observation, feedback, and student work.
● Ensure ongoing professional development in classical Christ-centered education.
● Cultivate a culture that encourages staff retention and unity.
3. Relationship with Parents
● Actively seek to partner with parents (home day teachers) by building strong
relationships and consistently gathering targeted feedback, particularly in relation to
major decisions.
● Oversee parent involvement and communicate regularly regarding school and division
business.
● Respond to parent questions and concerns in a timely, godly, and thoughtful manner.
● Support the biblical role of parents in education.
● Ensure parent cooperation with school policies and procedures.
● Communicate with parents regarding disciplinary actions as needed.
4. Relationship with Students
● Establish and maintain high standards of student conduct.
● Coordinate scheduling of school activities (field trips, events, competitions).
● Develop and coordinate community service opportunities.
● Monitor academic and character progress of each student.
● Provide spiritual leadership and foster a culture of kindness, respect, and school spirit.
● Oversee student involvement in extracurricular and athletic programs.
5. Instructional Leadership
● Oversee curriculum implementation, research improvements, and document curriculum
guides and accreditation requirements.
● Serve on the Academic and Administrative Teams.
● Analyze standardized test data to ensure best practices.
● Develop and implement sound, robust, and meaningful programs to meet students’
academic needs.
6. Operational Leadership
● Handle correspondence promptly (within 24 hours).
● Assist with admissions, including parent interviews and evaluating student records.
● Manage division budget responsibly.
● Oversee logistics such as lunch, carpool, and school events.
● Coordinate and lead Back-to-School (Parent Training) and End-of-Year events.
● Ensure compliance with safety and first responder certifications.
7. Additional Duties
● Retain certification as a first responder (First Aid and CPR).
● Sign off on report cards and manage academic records.
● Other duties as assigned by the Head of School.
