Position Description
A Kindergarten Teacher at Providence Academy is employed by the Headmaster to provide foundational instruction to kindergarten students, guided by the school’s classical, Christ-centered educational philosophy. This is an at-will position, and performance is evaluated annually by the Headmaster/Administrator.
Core Qualifications and Character
The ideal candidate must be a growing Christian with a positive testimony, able to integrate Biblical principles into all aspects of teaching, correction, and classroom culture. A core requirement is agreement with the school’s Statement of Faith.
Key qualifications include a bachelor’s degree (preferred) and classroom experience (highly desired). The teacher must be well-organized, possess strong leadership qualities, and be able to relate harmoniously with staff, parents, and school leadership. Consistent attendance and reliability are essential.
Teaching and Classroom Responsibilities
The Kindergarten Teacher is responsible for creating a nurturing and structured learning environment. This involves developing course goals and daily lesson plans that align with the school’s curriculum guide, ensuring all materials and teaching methods support a classical, Christ-centered approach.
Key duties include:
Instruction: Employing creative and effective instructional methods, aids, and materials appropriate for early childhood learners.
Student Development: Being fully informed on the academic, spiritual, and social development of each student, tracking their progress closely.
Classroom Management: Establishing and maintaining proper classroom discipline from a Biblical perspective, training young students in godly conduct.
Record Keeping: Maintaining accurate records for attendance and grades (or developmental progress) as required by the school and the state.
Lesson Planning: Completing and uploading daily lessons to the school’s software program.
Collaboration and Non-Teaching Duties
The teacher works collaboratively with the Headmaster on curriculum development and provides regular updates on each student’s progress and any potential problems.
Non-teaching responsibilities are a key part of the role and include:
Supervision: Actively supervising students during playground time, lunch, drop-off, and pickup.
Meetings: Attending all staff meetings, teacher prayer meetings, Convocation, Commencement, and All School Trimester Meetings.
Spiritual Ministry: Being available to minister to the spiritual needs of students and praying for them.
Professional Growth: Committing to ongoing professional and personal growth through reading and attending educational seminars.
Parent-Teacher Relationships
A strong home-school partnership is critical. The teacher is expected to initiate and maintain open communication with parents, sharing both concerns and commendations about their child. Formal parent-teacher conferences are a required part of this relationship.
