Position Description

Responsibilities

  • Teach middle school beginning Latin courses, introducing grammar, vocabulary, and basic translation to build a strong foundation.
  • Employ classical pedagogy, such as the trivium’s grammar and logic stages, to cultivate students’ linguistic precision and love for ancient languages.
  • Integrate biblical principles, drawing connections between Latin texts, Church history, and a Christian worldview.
  • Design and implement engaging lesson plans that align with the school’s classical Christian curriculum and mission.
  • Assess student progress through methods like translations, quizzes, recitations, and projects to encourage intellectual and spiritual growth.
  • Participate in faculty meetings, professional development, and school events to support our community and mission.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to enhance interdisciplinary connections, such as linking Latin to literature or history.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Experience teaching middle and/or high school students, ideally in a classical or Christian educational setting.
  • Strong understanding of classical pedagogy or a willingness to learn and apply it.
  • Deep commitment to faith in Jesus Christ and the integration of biblical principles into teaching.
  • Must possess or be willing to obtain teaching certification from the Association of Classical Christian Schools (ACCS).
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a heart for mentoring students and partnering with parents.

Preferred Skills

  • Familiarity with classical Latin curricula (e.g., Classical Academic Press’ “Latin Alive!”).
  • Experience in leading interactive language activities, such as oral drills, composition exercises, and cultural immersions.
  • Ability to connect Latin to other disciplines, like rhetoric or theology.
