Part-Time Upper School Humanities/Literature Teacher

Position Description

Responsibilities

  • Teach middle school humanities courses using the integrated Omnibus curriculum, combining history, literature, and theology.
  • Instruct high school literature and rhetoric courses, emphasizing reading, Socratic discussion, and the art of persuasive writing and speaking.
  • Employ classical pedagogy, such as the trivium’s logic and rhetoric stages, to cultivate students’ analytical skills and love for learning.
  • Integrate biblical principles across disciplines, drawing connections between great works and a Christian worldview.
  • Design and implement engaging lesson plans that align with the school’s classical Christian curriculum and mission.
  • Assess student progress through methods like essays, oral presentations, debates, and exams to encourage intellectual and spiritual growth.
  • Participate in faculty meetings, professional development, and school events to support our community and mission.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to enhance interdisciplinary connections and the overall educational experience.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Humanities, Literature, History, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred but not required).
  • Experience teaching middle and/or high school students, ideally in a classical or Christian educational setting.
  • Strong understanding of classical pedagogy or a willingness to learn and apply it.
  • Deep commitment to faith in Jesus Christ and the integration of biblical principles into teaching.
  • Must possess or be willing to obtain teaching certification from the Association of Classical Christian Schools (ACCS).
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a heart for mentoring students and partnering with parents.

Preferred Skills

  • Familiarity with the Omnibus curriculum and its integrated approach to humanities.
  • Experience teaching high school literature and rhetoric (e.g., argumentation, debate, public speaking).
  • Skill in leading Socratic dialogue and guiding students in crafting compelling arguments.
