Part-time Dialectic Drama Teacher

Position Description

The Geneva School is a mission-driven school established in 1993. Our mission is to provide students in grades K4-12 with an extraordinary education, by means of an integrated curriculum, pedagogy, and culture, both distinctly classical and distinctively Christian, that pursues goodness, truth, and beauty in all spheres of life while viewing these spheres as elements of a divinely ordered whole.  Furthermore, Geneva seeks to instill in students a desire to appreciate beauty, think critically, and pursue Christ’s calling.   As a mission-driven school, faculty members play a central role in fulfilling our mission.

The Geneva School is seeking applications for a part-time dialectic school drama teacher (7th & 8th grades).  A qualified candidate will have the ability to plan and teach a drama elective class that meets three times per week for 7th and 8th-grade students. This class will serve as a foundation for our rhetoric drama department. The class will culminate in the production and performance of a dialectic play, which will take place mid-January.

Essential Duties

Specific Job Responsibilities

  • Create a curriculum map, with detailed daily and weekly lesson plans for dialectic drama class
  • Select a play that will have two performances in January of 2026
  • Cover essential topics, including but not limited to: voice and movement, scene work, stage presence, delivering monologues, character development, and improvisation.
  • Evaluate student progress appropriately and enter grades timely
  • Collaborate with fellow teachers and administration to further develop best practices as a performing arts educator in an independent school
  • Skillfully manage a classroom of young people with varying strengths and experiences with the performing arts
  • Communicate effectively with students, parents, faculty, and staff
  • Committed to being a life-long learner, as well as committed to growing professionally as an educator through Geneva’s professional formation initiatives
  • Follow Geneva’s policies and procedures
  • Serve as a role model within our communities for Christian Classical Education

Personal Profile

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Hold at least a bachelor’s degree in a field related to the performing arts
  • Have experience teaching dialectic school-aged children in plays and performances
  • Will understand fundamentally and support the Christian and classical approach to education practiced at The Geneva School
  • Will have flexibility of schedule and be available to meet with students before or after school as needed. Will have the ability to have additional practices after school as the play dates approach
