Position Description
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES
The Kindergarten Teacher/Head of the Academy is responsible for Saint Luke’s Classical Academy.
This is a full-time, salaried position with a 9.5-month work schedule and base standard hours of 7:45 a.m. to 3:45 p.m. on school in-service days (185 days total). The
Kindergarten Teacher/Head of the Academy will teach in a self-contained classroom and manage the administrative responsibilities of the Academy’s launch and day-to-day operation. Organizationally, the Kindergarten Teacher/Head of the Academy reports directly to the Rector and Saint Luke’s Classical Academy Board of Directors.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
1. LEADS (35%)
• Develop, refine, and propagate the Academy’s vision, fostering a culture of truth, beauty, and goodness.
• Oversee long-term strategic planning, advising the Board to ensure the Academy’s vision is implemented.
• As grades are added, recruit exceptional teachers, fostering a faculty dedicated to the Academy’s mission.
• Coordinate budget creation and financial accounting, ensuring responsible fiscal management.
• Ensure student needs are met in establishing and enforcing supportive policies.
• Maintain student discipline, building relationships to foster godliness within the academy’s community.
• Oversee student recruitment, attracting godly families to support the Academy’s growth.
• Direct daily operations to ensure a smoothly run Academy.
• Order and maintain curriculum.
• Serve as an ex-officio member of the Saint Luke’s Classical Academy board.
• Provide the rector and vestry with a monthly executive summary of the Academy’s process.
• Coordinate with the preschool director to use outdoor play space and the sanctuary.
• Coordinate with designated Saint Luke’s clergy as they instruct students and faculty on faith formation.
• Coordinate with the Saint Luke’s Minister of Music as he/she instructs students in music.
• Communicate special Academy events and church services with parents.
• Serve as a conduit between parents and Saint Luke’s, encouraging a wholistic community that learns during the week and worships together on Sundays and during special services.
2. TEACHES (65%)
• Possess a thorough knowledge of and interest in the subjects taught.
• Teach according to the objectives, materials, priorities, and methods prescribed in Memoria Press’ educational philosophy.
• Seeks to meet students’ individual needs.
• Challenge students at their appropriate level.
• Plan for and teach creative lessons.
• Adhere to a zero-tolerance policy of student use of technology in the classroom.
• Foster an atmosphere of joy, wonder, and gratitude through learning.
• Follow the Academy’s conduct and discipline policies.
• Maintain a studious classroom environment.
• Provide clear and understandable standards for behavior.
• Show love to all students, regardless of their behavior.
• Serve as an example of professional conduct by:
○ Arriving to class on time.
○ Returning assessed work to students on time.
○ Keeping a clear and readable grade book.
○ Communicating with parents effectively and encouraging parental involvement.
○ Maintaining proper dress, attitude, and speech.
QUALIFICATIONS
• Bachelor’s degree, preferably in the humanities or education.
• Broad knowledge of theological and philosophical history.
• Conversant with and supportive of classical Christianity and classical Christian education.
• Align with the morals and ethical practices of the Anglican Church in North America (ACNA) and Saint Luke’s Anglican as explained in the Jerusalem Declaration and the Constitutions and Canons of the ACNA and Anglican Diocese of South Carolina.
• Successfully complete a background check.
• Successfully complete the diocesan ministry safe training.

• Lift 20 lbs. occasionally and 10 lbs. frequently.
• Sit frequently and stand and walk on varied surfaces.
• Bend, stoop, crouch, push, pull, climb, balance, kneel, crawl.
• Use hands or arms to reach in any direction and seize, grasp, hold, and turn objects using hand(s). Use fingers, rather than the whole hand, to pick, pinch, and feel objects.
• Communicate with others in person, electronically, or by phone requires seeing, talking, and hearing. Visual functions include identifying and distinguishing colors and bringing an object into sharp focus.
TRAVEL
This position may involve minimal travel to attend professional development training.
WORKING CONDITIONS
This role will be demanding. Saint Luke’s Academy is a startup that aims to add additional grades through fifth grade. The Kindergarten Teacher/Head of the Academy will be relied upon to practice and model balance and self-care for the good of the entire staff, congregation, and his or herself.
