Upper School Bible/Theology Teacher
Position Description
Summit Classical Academy, an ACCS-accredited, Christ-centered classical school, is seeking a devoted and knowledgeable Upper School Bible/Theology Teacher for the 2026–2027 school year. The ideal candidate will guide students in exploring the depths of Scripture and theological truths, revealing God’s sovereignty and redemptive plan through a classical Christian lens, while honing their skills in biblical interpretation, doctrinal analysis, and articulate defense of the faith. This position involves teaching Bible and theology courses to middle and high school students (grades 6–12), integrating classical pedagogy to foster spiritual growth, critical thinking, and a lifelong commitment to Christ.
Responsibilities:
- Teach upper school Bible and theology courses (e.g., Old/New Testament Survey, Systematic Theology, Apologetics, Church History), employing Socratic discussion, textual exegesis, and classical methods to illuminate biblical truths.
- Inspire students to connect Scripture with history, literature, and daily life, drawing out its relevance to a Christian worldview and personal discipleship.
- Design engaging lesson plans that align with SCA’s classical Christian curriculum, emphasizing the trivium’s logic and rhetoric stages.
- Assess student mastery through essays, oral defenses, debates, Scripture memorization, and exams to encourage intellectual and spiritual rigor.
- Mentor students in their faith journey, providing guidance on applying theological principles to contemporary issues.
- Collaborate with upper-school faculty on interdisciplinary projects, senior thesis support, and school-wide spiritual formation activities.
- Participate in faculty professional development, chapel services, and community events to uphold SCA’s mission.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree required (Master’s or Seminary degree preferred) in Bible, Theology, Divinity, or a related field.
- Proven experience teaching Bible or theology at the middle/high school level, preferably in a classical Christian setting.
- Deep personal faith in Jesus Christ and enthusiastic agreement with SCA’s Statement of Faith.
Strong grasp of classical pedagogy and the trivium, with an ability to integrate faith and learning seamlessly. - Willingness to obtain ACCS teacher certification.
- Excellent communication skills and a pastoral heart for discipling adolescents.
Preferred Additional Strengths:
- Experience with classical curricula focused on biblical studies (e.g., incorporating patristic writings, reformers, or apologetics frameworks).
- Familiarity with dual-enrollment theology courses.
- Interest in leading Bible studies, chapel talks, or spiritual retreats.
