Position Description

Summit Classical Academy, an ACCS-accredited, Christ-centered classical school, is seeking an enthusiastic and skilled Middle School Math Teacher for the 2026–2027 school year. The ideal candidate will awaken students to the wonder and logic of mathematics as a reflection of God’s orderly creation, training them in precise reasoning and problem-solving through classical methods. This position focuses on teaching math courses to middle school students (grades 6–8), such as Pre-Algebra, Algebra I, and Geometry foundations, integrating faith and learning to cultivate intellectual virtue and a biblical worldview.

Responsibilities

  • Teach middle school and high school math courses, using classical pedagogy like Socratic questioning, demonstrations, and hands-on activities to build foundational skills.
  • Highlight the harmony between mathematical truths and Scripture, fostering curiosity and logical thinking.
  • Design interactive lessons that include problem sets, proofs, and real-world applications aligned with SCA’s curriculum.
  • Assess student progress through quizzes, exams, projects, and oral explanations to ensure mastery and growth.
  • Mentor students in the logic and rhetoric stages of the trivium, helping them articulate mathematical concepts clearly.
  • Collaborate with faculty on cross-disciplinary integration, such as math in science or history.
  • Participate in professional development and school events to support our community.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics, Education, or a related field such as engineering (Master’s preferred).
  • Experience teaching middle school/high school math, ideally in a classical or Christian environment.
  • Deep personal faith in Jesus Christ and agreement with SCA’s Statement of Faith.
  • Understanding of classical pedagogy, particularly the trivium’s logic and rhetoric stages, or willingness to master it.
  • Willingness to obtain ACCS teacher certification.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and passion for nurturing young learners.

Preferred Additional Strengths

  • Familiarity with classical math curricula that emphasize discovery and proof
  • Experience preparing students for upper school math transitions.
  • Interest in sponsoring math clubs or competitions.
