Interim Head of School

Redeemer Classical Academy

210 Chaffin Place, Murfreesboro, Tennessee 37129

Position Description

Redeemer Classical Academy, a growing k-12 classical Christian school in Middle Tennessee, seeks an Interim Head of School to lead our community until a permanent Head of School is hired and installed.  The Interim Head of School will provide steady, visible leadership during a period of transition so that teaching, student life, and family confidence continue without interruption.

The role has three primary aims: First, keep the school running well day to day under its classical Christian mission. Second, stabilize enrollment and finances in the first year in the new Chaffin Place campus. Third, prepare the school for a strong handoff to a permanent Head of School.

Key Responsibilities

Mission and Spiritual Leadership

  • Uphold and model the school’s classical Christian mission, statement of faith, and culture of virtue.
  • Lead or oversee morning recitation each day and Wednesday chapel.
  • Serve as the school’s public face to families, churches, and the Murfreesboro community.

Academic Leadership

  • Oversee the K-12 classical curriculum and instruction, supporting teachers in subject mastery and classical pedagogy.
  • Lead the weekly Tuesday faculty meeting and provide regular classroom observation and feedback.
  • Maintain academic standards, student records, and graduation requirements.
  • Advance the school’s work toward ACCS accreditation and Tennessee Category II non-public school status.

Faculty and Staff

  • Supervise, support, and evaluate all faculty and staff.
  • Fill any vacancies during the term, and complete teacher hiring for the following year by May.
  • Direct the work of the Director of Advancement and Development.

Students and Families

  • Be present and visible at morning drop-off and afternoon pickup.
  • Oversee student discipline, safety, and pastoral care consistent with school policy.
  • Communicate regularly and clearly with parents, and keep an open door for their concerns.

Enrollment, Advancement, and Finance

  • Lead enrollment and re-enrollment efforts toward the school’s growth goal of approximately 200 students.
  • Support fundraising and donor relations alongside the Director of Advancement and Development.
  • Prepare the annual budget with the Board’s Finance Committee, completing it by January.
  • Manage spending within the approved budget and the Board’s reserve policy, and report financial status monthly.
  • Advance the Board’s revenue initiatives, including the planned preschool program and summer camps.

Operations and Safety

  • Oversee the Chaffin Place campus, facilities, vendors, and daily operations.
  • Coordinate with the school resource officer on campus security, gate access, and emergency procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable laws, school policies, and insurance requirements.

Board Relations and Transition

  • Report to the Board at each regular meeting on academics, enrollment, finances, and operations.
  • Carry out the Board’s priorities and any improvement plans it adopts.
  • Assist the Board’s search for a permanent Head of School as requested, and prepare transition materials for the incoming Head.

Qualifications

Required

  • A mature, growing Christian faith and full agreement with the school’s statement of faith and mission.
  • Bachelor’s degree; graduate degree preferred.
  • Demonstrated leadership of people and organizations.
  • Teaching experience, with an understanding of classical education and the liberal arts.
  • Sound judgment in finances, budgeting, and operations.
  • Strong written and spoken communication, including public speaking to families and donors.
  • Familiarity with the school, its families, and its history, so leadership can begin without a lengthy learning period.
  • Ability to pass a background check.

Preferred

  • Experience with ACCS member schools or accreditation.
  • Fundraising and donor relations experience.
  • Knowledge of Tennessee law governing non-public schools.
