MUSIC AND CHOIR TEACHER

Employee Type: Part-time (approx. 20 hours/week) Date Prepared: 1/30/2025
Reports To: Principal
OVERVIEW: The Music and Choir Teacher provides instruction in music and choir for students in
kindergarten through 12 grade as a core component of a robust classical, Christian education. He/she
helps students gain an appreciation for music styles and music history, especially the major classical
periods. He/she helps students to achieve basic vocal proficiency.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide multigrade instruction in music appreciation and choir
- Implement music/music appreciation curriculum
- Provide an introductory historical and auditory survey of the history of music from the 1500s to
present - Teach 4-8 choir songs per academic year, with an emphasis on intonation, tone, stance,
presentation, and overall vocal polish; perform choir pieces twice annually at ACA’s recitations - Maintain discipline, order, and joy in the classroom at all times
- Maintain up-to-date quarterly plans and lesson plans
- Participate in ACA’s Master Teacher Development program or other required staff development;
attend staff development meetings - Lead by example; model school values and desired culture
- Coordinate music performance components at special school events throughout the year (e.g.
Christmas Concert, Recitation, Exordium)
ESSENTIAL SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor’s degree; Two or more years of experience in music instruction; Passion for educating students in music appropriate to student ages; Proficiency with one or more musical instruments; Basic knowledge of other instruments; Interest in and knowledge of music history, especially the major classical periods; Ability to work well with a variety of constituencies (fellow staff, children, parents);
- Excellent leadership, organizational, and interpersonal skills; Commitment to classical Christian education and the ACA mission; Evidence of mature Christian faith and ability to affirm ACA Statement of Faith and Employee Standards of Conduct; Love for students and a desire to serve them through music education.
SALARY AND BENEFITS
- $25,000-30,000 annual salary depending on experience, qualifications, and teaching load
- PTO and Sick Leave days (based upon percentage of a full time teacher, which is 4 and 5 days
respectively) - Partially sponsored health and dental insurance plans (if employed 20+ hours)
