Position Description

The PE Teacher has four primary directives:

  • Teaching students how God designed humans as body, mind, and soul and how he designed the body to work
  • Modeling and teaching proper exercise form
  • Showing students how to achieve lifelong fitness
  • Training students to lead, coach, and encourage other students in athletic pursuits

The PE Teacher will prepare lessons for the following sections for students in grades 9-11:

  • Anatomy and Physiology (2 periods/week)
  • Workout Science (2 periods/week)

In addition to these specific duties, it is expected that the Teacher will model the Christian faith to students as a representative of the school’s mission. The Teacher is expected to address poor behavior in their students in the hallways when it is observed and to regularly incorporate Christian themes in their classes and in conversation with parents, staff, and students, such as the Gospel, forgiveness, virtue, and redemption. The Teacher is expected to pray with and for students on a regular basis.

The Teacher will independently assess PE assignments, providing quarterly standards and written evaluations to be included in students’ quarterly assessments.

The PE Teacher will create his own classroom rules, systems, and expectations consistent with the school-wide Discipline Policy and enforce these strictly, and report daily discipline notes to their supervisor when necessary. The Teacher will set up and clean up his own classes, with help from students. The Teacher will purchase students’ supplies; all PE supplies will be reimbursed by the school up to the PE Supplies Budget for the year.

The PE Teacher’s hours will be four 40-minute periods and two preparation periods; totalling approximately 6-7 hours per week. This role reports to the Head of School.

The Teacher will have a bachelor’s degree.
