5th-6th Grade Grammar School Teacher
Christ Classical Academy
Reports To: Lower School Principal
Status: Full-time, salaried

Position Purpose
The 5th-6th Grade Teacher plays a vital role in the formation of students during the Grammar Stage, where foundations of knowledge, virtue, and skill are carefully laid. This teacher provides instruction, guidance, and support across core academic subjects while cultivating a classroom culture marked by order, joy, and a love for what is true, good, and beautiful.

The 5th Grade Teacher partners closely with parents, faculty, and administration to ensure each student is known, supported, and challenged appropriately. This role includes awareness of student learning needs, implementation of accommodations when necessary, and a commitment to helping all students grow academically and spiritually within a Christ-centered environment.

  • Is passionate about Christ-centered classical education and the Grammar Stage of learning.
  • Embraces classical pedagogy (e.g., memorization, recitation, imitation, multum non multa).
  • Demonstrates initiative, diligence, and a solution-oriented mindset.
  • Builds strong, gracious relationships with students, parents, and colleagues.
  • Exercises discernment, discretion, and confidentiality regarding student needs.
  • Maintains a classroom culture of attentiveness, respect, and joyful learning.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education or related field preferred.
  • Teaching experience in elementary or classical settings preferred.
  • Familiarity with classical curriculum (e.g., IEW, Shurley Grammar, Latin, etc.) is beneficial.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and classroom management skills

Essential Job Functions

INSTRUCTION & CLASSROOM LEADERSHIP

  • Teach core subjects appropriate to 5th grade (e.g., math, language arts, history, science, Latin support as applicable).
  • Plan and deliver engaging lessons aligned with classical methods and school curriculum.
  • Cultivate habits of attention, memory, and joyful learning in students.
  • Maintain clear classroom routines and expectations that promote order and excellence.

COMMUNICATION & COLLABORATION

  • Communicate regularly and clearly with parents regarding student progress and needs.
  • Collaborate with administration, Student Support staff, and colleagues to ensure student success.
  • Participate in faculty meetings, professional development, and school events.
  • Serve as a partner in discipleship alongside families.

CLASSROOM & ADMINISTRATIVE RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Maintain accurate records of attendance, grades, and student progress.
  • Prepare instructional materials and manage classroom resources effectively.
  • Support school-wide initiatives, events, and culture-building activities.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to occasionally lift up to 25 lbs.
  • Ability to move throughout campus and actively engage with students throughout the day.
  • Maintain designated working hours and participate in school events as needed.
