Jackson Hole Classical Academy

2500 S Park Loop Road, Jackson, Wyoming 83001

Position Description

A Jackson Hole Classical Academy Art Teacher will seek to instill in students a lifelong love of and appreciation for art. A classical school’s art program trains skills and subject integration and learns from the masters (ancient, medieval, and modern). The curriculum teaches the elements, application, theory, and history of art at developmentally appropriate levels, beginning with fundamentals and principles. Students learn to analyze and imitate, and proceed, ultimately, to the communication of truth, beauty, and goodness through visual media.

A successful Art Teacher candidate will have the following prerequisite skills, credentials, and expertise:

·      Knowledge of the methods and goals of classical education

·      Knowledge of art history

·      Understanding of beauty as a transcendental reality

·      Experience in elementary art instruction

·      Ability to draw accurately

·      Ability to teach a variety of media and techniques to younger students

Experience with Charlotte Mason’s approach to habit formation is preferred, but not required.

The curriculum at JH Classical Academy is in the classical liberal arts tradition. The Academy believes that each student is created in the image and likeness of God and that the pursuit of truth always begins with a sense of wonder. As educators, we seek “to cultivate within our students the wisdom and virtue necessary to discover and fulfill their God-given potential and contribute to a flourishing and free society.”

Jackson Hole, gateway to both Grand Teton National Park and Yellowstone National Park, is visually stunning and offers an unsurpassed quality of life. Weekend and summer recreation opportunities abound. The attractiveness of Jackson makes housing difficult to find, so the Academy assists in that search.

If you would like to be considered for the Art Teacher position, please submit a cover letter, resume, and Initial Inquiry: Faculty (Fine Arts) form to [email protected]. This position is open for the 2023–24 school year.
