Position Description

The JECA Head of Upper School (“HoUS”) provides academic, spiritual, and cultural leadership to faculty, students, and parents in the Upper School (6th-12th grades). The HoUs ensures the academic program’s alignment with JECA’s mission and vision to offer a robust and joyful classical and Christian education. He/She nurtures a warm and orderly culture where delight and diligence cohabit with the gospel message. The HoUS reports to the Headmaster and is a member of JECA’s Executive Team.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Communicate the vision and mission of JECA
  • Provide vision, direction, and inspiration to faculty, families, and students
  • Nurture a school culture that promotes scholarship, spiritual growth, and Christian community
  • Oversee curriculum, instruction, and assessment in cooperation with the Academic Dean
  • Contribute to faculty hiring, and help oversee their development, and evaluation
  • Provide instructional leadership and coaching for faculty along with the Director of Professional Development
  • Shepherd student discipline issues
  • Establish and nurture parent relationships
  • Serve as a member of the school’s Executive and Admissions Teams

OTHER DUTIES

Additional duties of this role include:

  • Meet regularly with the faculty
  • Work with the Director of Professional Development to maintain a regular schedule of teacher supervision and evaluation and encourage a culture of lifelong learning
  • Coordinate peer teacher observations
  • Work alongside Student Support to collaborate and support teachers to help identify best practices on how to deliver accommodations in accordance with best practices for JECA’s context
  • Set and manage the Upper School budget in coordination with the Headmaster and bookkeeper
  • Ensure that resources are directed toward improving student learning and mission accomplishments
  • Approve field trips and special activities
