Position Description
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Lead & Develop Faculty
Provide leadership, guidance, and direction to staff in the following areas:
- Cultivation of a traditional, classical school culture
- Staff Standards of Excellence
- Biblically-based Christian leadership
- Academic integrity and disciplinary oversight
Faculty and staff management and professional development
- Leads, supports, and encourages staff in carrying out their responsibilities, listening and responding to concerns, mediating grievances, offering advice on how to tackle behavioral and academic issues, and facilitating cooperation and collaboration among staff members
- Responsible for the operational aspects of onboarding staff and faculty and recommends offers of employment, renewals, and adjustments
- Plans and leads summer staff training
- Conducts regular classroom observation and feedback and annual Performance Evaluations including input from other staff as necessary
- Authors weekly written staff communication and leads scheduled staff meetings
- Responsible for staff recruitment, interview, and selection in cooperation with Board
- When necessary, tasked with terminating staff/faculty in cooperation with the Board
- Ensures accurate records are kept and maintained by staff
- Ensures required training are complete for all staff members
- Substitute teach on occasion to support staff, as needed
Day-to-Day Operations
- Manage the business of the school and oversee daily operations and school events, delegating tasks to staff and volunteers as appropriate
- Oversees and enforces school policies and procedures
- Oversees the development of the annual calendar
- Creates the master daily schedule for all classes, specials, and chapel
- Interacts with Christ Church United Methodist regarding day-to-day operational items and facility maintenance, including attending occasional meetings
Build and Cultivate Student and Parent Relationships
- Leads prospective family Preview Days, as needed
- Oversees and conducts interviews with prospective families, with other staff and/or Board members
- Develops and maintains relationships with students as an authoritative and engaging presence on campus, especially between classes, during lunch and recess, and at the beginning and end of the day
- Establishes and maintains open lines of communication with students and parents concerning students’ academic, social, and behavioral progress
- Functions as the primary communicator with the student and his/her parents in cases of serious misconduct, and supports faculty in all necessary communication with students and parents in cases of lesser misconduct or academic struggles
- Engages consistently with our Parent Grandparent Organization (PGP), attending meetings and providing guidance on where they can best support

- Articulates and facilitates the implementation of the mission and values of NCS
- Complies with Northstar Statement of Faith and Code of Conduct in the Family Handbook
- Conforms to NCS policies, including attendance, absences, and evaluations
- Upholds and enforces rules, policies, and local, state, and federal regulations
- Safeguards confidentiality of privileged information
- Maintains professional relationships and works cooperatively with employees, the community, and other professionals
- Maintains professional competence through individual and staff training, in-service educational activities, and self-selected professional growth activities and classes
- Maintains conduct befitting a disciple of Christ, particularly in public conduct and conversation (including Social Media), recognizing that even when not formally carrying out duties or speaking on behalf of the school, the Principal’s s conduct, speech, and demeanor (in person or in media) will reflect on the school, shaping its perception among parents, prospective families, and the wider community
Performs other tasks related to area of responsibilities as requested or assigned by the Board
REPORTING STRUCTURE
Reports to the NCS Board
- Submits regular written and/or oral reports to the Board regarding the planning for and well-being of NCS, and the implementation of policies
- Serves as an ex-officio member of Board, attending meetings as requested
- Submits for approval recommendations concerning staff and student dismissals, annual budgets, tuition and fees, and policy manuals
WORK YEAR
This is a full-time position that works 12 months a year. We operate on a rigorous 35-week academic calendar with a 4-day school week which meets Tuesday – Friday. In addition to summer break, we have a one-week Thanksgiving break, a two-week Christmas break, and a one-week spring break.
The principal works from his or her school office during the academic year and will hold abbreviated office hours during the summer.
In addition to day-to-day school operations, leadership and presence at school events that occur outside of the school day (e.g. Christmas Cantata, Field Day, etc.) are required.
Compensation range: $45-50,000.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Possess a strong working knowledge of Latin-based, classical education pedagogy
- Maintain a faithful and vibrant relationship with God through prayer and adherence to the Holy Bible
- Actively worship with a local body of Christian believers
- Hold a bachelor’s degree; Liberal Arts and/or Classical Education background preferred
- Latin background preferred or over time expected to learn and eventually teach Latin
- Maintain current infant/child CPR and first aid certification
- Complete and pass a background check
