Position Description

School of the Ozarks, a classical Christian model laboratory school of College of the Ozarks, invites applications for a full-time administrative position as assistant dean of the lab school. The starting date is June 1, 2024. The role of assistant dean is a 12-month administrative contract with accrued vacation days. Salary and benefits commensurate with qualifications and experience. A master’s degree or higher is preferred, and the ideal candidate should have experience in a classical Christian K-12 school. The position is considered a College of the Ozarks administrative position, serving in the laboratory school under the direction of the dean, Dr. Brad Dolloff.

The assistant dean of the lab school not only assists the dean in planning and directing a K-12 classical Christian school on the campus of College of the Ozarks but also serves as the primary administrator in a K-8 building, ensuring the consistent daily operation of the Lower School. Leadership and collaboration are critical skills for this role.

The ideal candidate will have a vibrant and growing relationship with Christ, a commitment to personal Christian study and growth, an understanding of and a desire to promote classical Christian education, as well as the ability to communicate effectively and cast a compelling vision. In addition, the individual should possess the humility to serve students, parents, faculty, and the dean. Primary responsibilities include but are not limited to:

·         Personal commitment to prayer, Bible study, and the local church.

·         An understanding of the classical Christian educational model.

·         Commitment to continued study and development of classical Christian education.

·         The ability to build relationships with students, faculty, staff, and parents.

·         The desire to disciple and contribute to the development of students.

·         The ability to model excellent teaching within the classical Christian model. (The assistant dean is expected to teach at least one class at some level.)

·         A willingness to support the Dean of the Lab School in school administration tasks.

·         Coordinate and implement school programs and events.

·         Organize and lead annual classical Christian education conferences.

·         Assist with developing and running an annual classical Christian education training.

·         Address student discipline and behavior problems (primarily K-8) through a Christian worldview lens.

·         Assist in developing and improving school policies and procedures.

·         Facilitate departmental budgets for the school.

·         Act as a resource for parents, teachers, and students, providing Biblical counsel in problem areas.

·         Perform other duties as requested.

The successful candidate must embrace the College and School’s Christ-centered mission and demonstrate excellence in teaching students in elementary grades through 12th grade. Furthermore, the candidate should possess a commitment to serving as a mentor and positive role model.  School of the Ozarks is a classical Christian school on the campus of College of the Ozarks, a liberal arts work-study college with a commitment to evangelical Christian faith and service, located in southwest Missouri near Branson ( School of the Ozarks holds membership in both the Association of Classical Christian Schools (ACCS) and the Society for Classical Learning (SCL).
