Position Description
JOB DESCRIPTION.
Second Baptist School University-Model® (SBSUM) is currently seeking a full-time COLLEGE GUIDANCE COUNSELOR for the 2023-2024 school year.
- Reports To: Dean of Academics
- Work Hours: 7:30 AM – 4 PM
- Work Calendar: Eleven Months
JOB SUMMARY.
Essential functions of the job include but are not limited to the following:
- Meet with parents to discuss and provide information about their student’s college admissions process and college financial aid options.
- Oversee the fall application process as students finalize their college lists and submit applications.
- Visit college campuses, and pertinent college conferences, to establish and maintain mutually beneficial relationships with college admissions staff.
- Work closely with parents, their students and the athletics department to successfully navigate the NCAA ClearingHouse process.
- Work closely with faculty to train and guide the recommendation letter process for students applying to colleges.
- Oversee student, parent, and faculty use of the online database Naviance and keep the database up to date using information from the school learning management system.
- Organize and oversee all aspects of PSAT and Advanced Placement including testing on campuses.
- Assist in hosting the system-wide annual college fair at SBS schools.
- Other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE SKILLS/ABILITIES REQUIRED.
To perform this job successfully, candidates must:
- Have a strong desire to be part of the leadership team at SBSUM, a Christian college-preparatory school, which is a ministry of Second Baptist Church.
- Have at least three or more years of experience in college counseling, college admissions or high school counseling.

- A bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution; a master’s degree is preferred.

- A strong work ethic and organizational skills.
Advanced Placement training/experience, independent school teaching, and prior knowledge of Second Baptist Church and School are all considered a plus.
