Position Summary
SHCA is seeking an experienced, classical educator for the upcoming school year. The ideal candidate is not merely a classroom manager, but a culture-shaper who loves the classical model and delights in cultivating a love for the True, Good, and Beautiful.
As a Grammar School teacher, you will guide students through the foundational stage of the Trivium, utilizing recitation, memorization, and narrative to build a deep framework of knowledge. You will serve as a spiritual mentor, model of virtue, and intellectual guide, ensuring students achieve academic mastery while developing strong moral character.
Key Responsibilities
- Classical Pedagogy: Deliver a rigorous grammar-stage curriculum utilizing classical methodologies (including mimetic instruction, narration, chant, and recitation).
- Culture & Paideia: Cultivate a joyful, orderly, and Christ-centered classroom culture rooted in Christian virtue and mutual respect.
- Lesson Architecture: Design and execute clear lesson plans that align with classical objectives and foster deep content mastery.
- Parent Partnership: Maintain proactive, professional communication with parents, recognizing them as the primary educators of their children.
- Student Discipleship: Shepherd students through intentional character development, resolving behavioral conflicts through a biblical framework.
- Faculty Collaboration: Participate actively in staff devotions, professional development, and collaborative curriculum mapping.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Spiritual Alignment: A visible, mature Christian faith and full agreement with SHCA’s Statement of Faith.
- Classical Experience: Minimum of 2–3 years of teaching experience, with a preference for candidates with experience in a classical Christian environment (although not required, training is provided).
- Educational Background: Bachelor’s degree required; an advanced degree is a plus.
- Pedagogical Knowledge: Deep understanding of the Trivium, specifically child development and learning mechanisms within the Grammar stage.
- Communication Skills: Exceptional written and verbal communication skills appropriate for interfacing with parents, colleagues, and administration.
