History Teacher ( Upper School )
Position Description
Summit Classical Academy, an ACCS-accredited, Christ-centered classical school, is seeking a passionate and erudite History Teacher for the 2026–2027 school year. The ideal candidate will lead students through the grand narrative of history, unveiling God’s providence and lessons from the past, while sharpening their analytical and rhetorical skills via classical pedagogy. This upper-school position (grades 9–12) will cover courses such as Western Civilization, American History, and World History, integrating primary sources and biblical insights to inspire wise citizenship and faithful living.
Responsibilities
- Teach upper school history courses, employing Socratic seminars, timeline analysis, and narrative storytelling to engage students.
- Connect historical events to God’s redemptive story, emphasizing virtue, justice, and human flourishing.
- Develop lessons with primary documents, debates, and projects that align with SCA’s classical curriculum.
- Evaluate student understanding through essays, presentations, discussions, timelines, and exams.
- Guide students in the rhetoric stage, teaching them to argue persuasively from historical evidence.
- Work with colleagues on interdisciplinary efforts, including senior theses and mock trials.
- Engage in faculty development and school activities to advance our mission.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in History, Humanities, or a related field (Master’s preferred).
- Proven teaching experience in upper school history, preferably classical Christian.
- Deep faith in Jesus Christ and alignment with SCA’s Statement of Faith.
- Proficiency in classical methods and the trivium’s rhetoric stage.
- Willingness to obtain ACCS teacher certification.
- Excellent communication and a zeal for historical inquiry.
Preferred Additional Strengths
- Experience with Great Books-integrated history (e.g., incorporating Thucydides, Tacitus, or Founding Fathers).
- Knowledge and experience needed to prepare dual-enrollment history courses.
Interest in leading history clubs or field trips.
