Position Description

Trinity Christian School is a privately funded, not-for-profit school for children from Kindergarten to Grade 12, located in Morris County, New Jersey (approximately 30 miles from NYC). The school was formed in 1986 and exists to provide Christian families with a biblically-based, academically excellent, Christian education. In 1996 the School shifted its focus from Christian education, to Classically Christian education. Among other changes, this shift resulted in the introduction of Latin in the grammar school years, alongside capstone courses such as Western Thought, Worldviews, Logic, Rhetoric and more in the secondary grades. The governing body is a board of trustees. Each board member serves a three-year term, and may serve consecutive terms.

Job description: We anticipate having more than one opening for classroom teachers for our K-6 elementary school for the 2024-2025 academic year.

Job purpose: The school teacher shall prayerfully help students learn attitudes, skills, and subject matter that will contribute to their development as mature, able, and responsible Christians to the praise and glory of God.

Essential Job Functions—Accountabilities

It is expected that the school teacher will …

Spiritual Leadership

  • Demonstrate acceptance, without reservation, of the Christian school’s statement of faith.
  • Clearly verbalize God’s gift of salvation, and be a Christian witness and role model to students.
  • Ensure that the classroom work environment is Biblically-based, nurturing, wholesome, and loving.
  • Work with the administration and staff to address the spiritual formation needs of the students.
  • Carry out Christ-centered counseling with students and staff when appropriate

Academic Leadership

  • Have knowledge and understanding of (or be willing to learn and adopt) the Classical Christian philosophy of education.
  • Have knowledge and mastery of subjects to be taught (e.g., grade-level English, Phonics, Mathematics, Bible, History, Science, etc.) and of the school’s curriculum, standards, and mission.
  • Teach classes, at age-level, as assigned following the prescribed scope and sequence as scheduled by the administration and in a manner that teaches the whole child —spiritual, mental, physical, social, and emotional.
  • Integrate biblical principles and the Christian worldview throughout the curriculum and activities.
  • Ensure that his or her school classroom reflects a professional and Christian environment.
  • Plan broadly through the use of daily lesson plans/ objectives and use homework effectively for drill, review, enrichment, or project work.
  • Plan through approved channels the use of field trips, guest speakers, and other media for a balanced classroom.
  • Regularly assess the learning of students, and provide progress reports as required.
  • Respond in a timely manner to parent inquiries/ complaints and participate in formal and informal parent-teacher conferences.
  • Participate in continuous professional development through professional reading, college course work, in-services, workshops, and/or conferences.

Additional Duties or Responsibilities

It is expected that the school teacher will …

  • Represent the school in a professional manner to the school’s constituency and the general public.
  • Participate in the school’s development programs and activities in areas of constituency relations, fund-raising, and student recruitment and retention, when possible.
  • Supervise extracurricular activities, organizations, and outings as assigned.
  • Support the broader program of the school by attending extracurricular activities when possible.
  • Involve parents in prayer and volunteerism as appropriate.
  • Perform any other duties that may be assigned by the administration.

Qualifications:

  • This position normally requires a bachelor’s degree (though an Associate’s degree will be considered)
  • Previous teaching experience and knowledge of classical methodology are preferred (but not required).
  • Personal profession of faith in Jesus Christ and membership in a local Bible-believing evangelical church
  • Successfully completing and meeting all mandated state clearances and trainings
  • Proficient in Google Office Suite and typing
  • Strong desire to advance personal knowledge and skills through professional development
  • Should be able to lift comfortably at least 25 lbs
