Position Description

ONE TO ONE SPECIAL EDUCATION PARAPROFESSIONAL

Begins: April 2, 2024-May 23,2024, as well as 2024-25 School Year

WCA is actively seeking an educational aide to work with a student with down syndrome. The educational aide would be responsible for implementing a one-on-one education and behavioral plan with an individual student along with data collection. We are looking for hard working applicants who have prior experience working with children, have excellent social skills, and are reliable. Applicants must be able to clearly communicate and perform required physical demands of managing students of varying weights and sizes (e.g., lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, climb, kneel, sit on the ground). Educational aide permit or at least 1 year working with children with down syndrome or other neurodevelopmental disorders preferred. Candidates should have a working knowledge of classical education with a desire to expand on their understanding.

Work Hours: Full Time, Monday – Friday (8:15 – 3:15)

Pay Scale: $18-25/hour, commensurate with experience

Start Date: April 2, 2024-May 23,2024, as well as 2024-25 School Year

Reports to: Semper Crescente Director

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE (BUT NOT LIMITED TO)

The job of One-on-One Special Education Paraprofessional is done for the purpose/s of providing support to the instructional program with specific responsibility for assisting in the supervision, care, and instruction of students with special needs in the general education setting or in a self-contained classroom; assisting in implementing plans for instruction; monitoring student behavior; and providing information to appropriate school personnel.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES (BUT NOT LIMITED TO)

Recognize and support the mission, vision and goals of the WCA Semper Crescente program
Serve as a model for students of a follower of Christ
Demonstrate the fruit of the spirit in your interactions with students and parents
Pray regularly with and for the students, parents, colleagues and school
Adapts classroom activities, assignments and/or materials under the direction of the supervising teacher for the purpose of supporting and reinforcing classroom objectives and meeting IEP goals
Administers tests, make-up work, etc. for the purpose of supporting student needs in the classroom.
Assists students with personal hygiene and care needs.
Provides, under the supervision of the assigned teacher, instruction to the student in a variety of individual and group activities for the purpose of reinforcing instructional objectives; implementing IEP plans; and ensuring the student’s access to his/her least restrictive environment.
Supervises individual students in a variety of settings (e.g. community field trips, hallways, parking lots, classrooms, etc.) for the purpose of providing a safe and positive learning environment.
Attends any problem solving/IEP meeting/parent teacher conferences and provides input as to the student’s progress for the purpose of maintaining a whole student approach to his/her education.
Collects data on the student’s IEP goals for the purpose of maintaining accurate records and engaging in data based decision making.
Attend WCA training and make a conscious effort to understand the classical model of education

A follower of Jesus Christ and personal agreement with our Statement of Faith and lifestyle agreement
Detail oriented and organized
Excellent verbal and written skills
Ability to sincerely interact and pray with our students and their parents
Friendly, gentle, patient, and professional demeanor; teachable spirit
A commitment to Christian education and developing a life-long biblical worldview
A high school diploma or equivalent, and an ODE educational aide permit
Prior work experience with Downs Syndrome or other developmental disabilities strongly encouraged
Minimum 1 year working with children, preferred experience with disabilities A follower of Jesus Christ and personal agreement with our Statement of Faith and lifestyle agreement

A bachelor’s degree or higher in special education, ODE Intervention Specialist Licensure a must
Science of Reading Certification or Training strongly encouraged
Minimum 1 year working with children with disabilities
A basic understanding of classical education
