Position Description

Rhetoric School Humanities Teacher & Curriculum Coordinator Role Overview

Austin Classical School is seeking a dedicated Rhetoric School Humanities Teacher & Curriculum
Coordinator. This dual role involves teaching upper-level humanities classes as well as overseeing the
curriculum mapping, documentation, and alignment for humanities in the 7th through 12th grades.

Teaching Responsibilities
● Instruction: Teach five sections of upper-level history or literature courses (e.g. U.S. History,
Modern History, The Novel, Modern Literature, Medieval & Renaissance History, etc)
● Preparation & Planning: Prepare weekly lesson plans, with active planning and teaching time
on campus from 7:40 AM to 4:00 PM M-Th.
● Student Support & Supervision: Supervise Study Hall and fulfill assigned duty rotations,
which may include morning/chapel, lunch, and/or flex periods.
● Culture & Conduct: Help shape a vibrant student culture in the School of Rhetoric and
contribute to Spring semester student conduct reports.
● Parent Communication: Conduct parent/teacher meetings as needed.
Curriculum Coordinator Responsibilities (7th–12th Grades)
● Alignment & Evaluation: Oversee humanities curriculum mapping and documentation,
ensuring vertical alignment of content and skills progression through the logic and rhetoric
stages. Review and evaluate current materials to make recommendations.
● Cross-Team Coordination: Coordinate with 5th and 6th grade teams, Logic and Grammar
School Heads, and other subject area coordinators to maintain cross-curricular integration and
alignment.
● School Year Duties: Participate in curriculum review committee meetings, support teachers
upon request, maintain organized curriculum documentation, and meet quarterly with
administration regarding curriculum development and needs.
● Summer Duties: Facilitate summer curriculum development work, review and update scope
and sequence documentation, and prepare materials for the upcoming academic year. Assist in
planning humanities professional development and onboarding new teachers regarding
curriculum implementation.

Qualifications
● Experience: Minimum of five years of teaching experience. Teaching experience in a classical
school is preferred.
● Education: Advanced degree in History, Literature, or a closely related field.
● Faith: Must joyfully affirm the ACS Statement of Faith.

Reports to: Greg Jeffers, Head of Rhetoric & Dean of Academics

Salary is competitive and commensurate with education and experience. Teachers are paid twice a
month from August through May.
