Art Teacher (K-6th Grade)

Position Summary
Veritas Academy seeks a Christ-centered, creatively gifted Art Teacher to introduce young artists to the beauty of God’s creation through drawing, painting, and the study of master artists across history. The successful candidate will lead two age-appropriate cohorts each instructional day, weaving together hands-on technique, art history, and the Christian understanding of beauty, truth, and goodness. This role is well-suited for an artist-educator passionate about classical Christian education and the formation of young hearts and hands.

Key Responsibilities
- Plan and deliver developmentally appropriate art lessons for two cohorts (K–2 and 3rd–6th) during MWF afternoon sessions
- Introduce students to foundational artistic techniques including drawing, painting, color theory, and composition
- Teach the lives, works, and styles of master artists from the Western and Christian artistic tradition
- Develop a scope and sequence of instruction aligned with the school’s classical Christian curriculum
- Submit weekly lesson plans
- Assess student progress regularly and provide grades and feedback within 48 hours
- Cultivate a joyful, well-ordered studio environment marked by gospel-centered discipline
- Help students see and celebrate God’s beauty reflected in creation and in the work of human hands
- Communicate proactively and warmly with parents as co-laborers in their children’s education
- Participate in faculty meetings, professional development in classical pedagogy, and school events
- Maintain a well-organized classroom and oversee art supplies, materials, and student work
- Model Christlike character, creativity, and a love for learning
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts, Art Education, Liberal Arts, or a related field (equivalent professional or studio experience considered)
- A vibrant, professing faith in Jesus Christ and active membership in a Bible-believing local church
- Wholehearted agreement with Veritas Academy’s Statement of Faith and Mission
- Demonstrated skill in drawing, painting, and foundational visual art techniques
- Working knowledge of art history and the major artists of the Western tradition
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Demonstrated ability to nurture and instruct young children with patience, warmth, and authority
- Ability to pass a background check and meet California requirements for working with minors
Preferred Qualifications
- Classical liberal arts education or coursework in classical Christian pedagogy
- Prior teaching experience, especially in a Christian or classical school setting
- Familiarity with classical art training methods (sight-size drawing, atelier methods, nature study, picture study)
- Personal studio practice or active work as a practicing artist
- Coursework or experience in art history, aesthetics, or theology of beauty
