Position Description
Clapham School is seeking a Lower School teacher for the 2025-2026 school year. Clapham is a PreK-12 Christ-centered, classical school committed to providing a formative learning experience of diligent engagement and joyful discovery. Inspired by the pedagogy of Charlotte Mason, our teachers believe in the God-given potential of each child as they seek to cultivate a love for learning across subjects.
Main Responsibilities:
1. Provide instruction in accordance with the school’s classical philosophy
2. Provide instruction using Charlotte Mason’s pedagogical techniques of narration, habit training, atmosphere, and a curriculum of living books and ideas
3. Teach and lesson plan for a variety of subjects, including math, nature study, history, literature, poetry, Bible, phonics, reading, spelling, artist study, composer study, and recitation
4. Implement a phonics approach to reading instruction
5. Help students grow in habits of mind, heart, and body
6. Foster positive and collaborative relationships with the students and parents
7. Foster a positive and collaborative relationship with the classroom aide
8. Attend staff meetings and training days
Qualifications:
1. Devoted follower of Jesus Christ with demonstrated involvement in a local church
2. Passionate about children’s education in a safe and nurturing environment
3. Desire to learn and implement the school’s educational model, especially the philosophy of Charlotte Mason
4. General understanding of child development and a demonstrated desire to engage with children
5. Organized and detail-oriented
6. Proficient in general computing, Microsoft Word, and Microsoft Excel
7. Professional and persuasive oral and written communication skills
8. Experience working with elementary-aged children
9. Strong leadership and consistent classroom management skills
10. Eagerness to contribute to aspects of school life and school culture with a spirit of service and a dedication to discipleship
11. Ability to interact professionally and cooperatively with parents and members of the school community
12. Commitment to learning the school’s unique philosophy of education
13. Holds a bachelor’s or master’s degree in elementary education or from a liberal arts college
